The University of Memphis and law enforcement officials are investigating racial and offensive remarks made on the official Instagram account of the Tigers' men's basketball team.

The investigation pertains to an Instagram post advertising the next Memphis home game against Bryant on Saturday. Subsequent responses made to the post featured racist monikers and offensive language. One comment included a potential death threat.

The Instagram post, and the comments made about it, have since been removed from the internet by the university. The Memphis athletic department released a statement Thursday afternoon confirming its knowledge of the situation.

"The University of Memphis is actively working with law enforcement officials concerning offensive and threatening comments posted on the University of Memphis Men’s Basketball Instagram account. We will have no additional comments while the case is under investigation."
