Police: Fatal shooting at Sing Lay Chinese Restaurant ruled self-defense

An employee at a Chinese restaurant in Frayser who police say shot and killed a man during an attempted robbery will not be charged.

The incident took place Monday night at Sing Lay Chinese Restaurant, 2684 Frayser Boulevard.

The man shot was pronounced dead on the scene. Police have not identified the suspect or the employee in the shooting.

"No criminal charges will be filed in connection with this homicide," Memphis police said in a Twitter post Tuesday. "The suspect was armed while attempting to rob the business. The employee armed himself in self-defense, shooting the suspect."
