A 24-year-old man has been arrested in the fatal shooting of another man during a basketball game in a South Memphis park Monday.

Ladareion Greer has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Brandeon Thomas.

Police responded to a shooting call Monday in Belz Park on Fernwood Avenue and Shelby Street. Officers found Thomas on the ground with a gunshot wound to his right eye.

A witness told police that Thomas was playing basketball when he got into an argument with Greer, according to the arrest affidavit.

Greer is accused of firing several shots at Thomas, who was taken to the Regional Medical Center where he died Tuesday night.

Greer turned himself in Wednesday. He told detectives that he fired his .32-caliber gun four or five times after an altercation with Thomas at the basketball court.

After the shooting, Greer told police that he threw the gun away in Martin Luther King Park, according to the affidavit.

In addition to the murder charge, Greer was also charged with tampering with/fabricating evidence for throwing away the gun, police said.

Greer is in jail on a $1 million bond. He will be in court Friday for a video arraignment on the charge.
