A 35-year-old man charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a man and a woman found dead in their Raleigh apartment Monday confessed to the double homicide, police said.

Jerry Pointer of Memphis was arrested Monday and charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of the unidentified man and woman.

The victims were found after Memphis police responded to a welfare check call around 4:30 p.m. Monday at an apartment in the 2800 block of Coach Drive, off James Road.

According to an affidavit, the fire department had to force their way into the apartment. Once inside, police found the man and woman shot to death.

Police said in an affidavit that Pointer was developed as a suspect after a witness identified him in a photo lineup as the person who admitted to killing the victims.

Once in custody, police said Pointer told investigators that he planned the homicides, but no motive was listed in the affidavit.

Pointer will be in court Wednesday on the charges. No bond has been set.
