Trampoline park jumping into Cordova

Urban Air Trampoline & Adventure Park is making good on its September announcement that it's coming to Memphis; the business applied for a building permit this month and plans to open in Cordova's Trinity Commons by April.

"It's ideal for what we're trying to do,'' franchisee Tad Duncan said Wednesday of the 30,000 square feet, much of which housed the now-closed Edwin Watts golf shop at 700 N. Germantown Parkway.

The Texarkana resident estimates he will spend about $2 million building out and equipping the space. He'll employ about 50 people there.

Urban Air will offer wall-to-wall arenas, dodge ball courts, volleyball courts, a "drop zone,'' performance trampoline, slam dunk tracks, trampoline runway, and space for children 7 and younger.

The site also will feature such "adventure'' activities as the Urban Warrior Course, Warrior Battle Beam, TUBES Indoor Playground, climbing walls and a ropes course.

Duncan is relatively new to the business. Three years ago, he and his partners sold their Hope, Arkansas-based, company, Hope Agri, that made and packaged mulch. He looked around for another business to enter, and decided on the Urban Air franchises.

He opened his first, and so far only, Urban Air in the Birmingham suburb of Homewood, Alabama. "It's had a lot of success so far,'' Duncan said.

The Trinity Commons space fills a geographic gap in Memphis for trampoline parks. There's a Sky Zone at 5355 Distriplex Farms in Southeast Memphis, and a Get Air Memphis at 952 W. Poplar in Collierville.
