In the frigid cold Monday morning, Memphis police investigated the second fatal shooting in a year and a half on Lucy Avenue in South Memphis.

Police were called to a home in the 200 block of Lucy around 3:20 a.m. Monday, said police spokeswoman Karen Rudolph.

Officers found a man with gunshot wound. He was taken to the Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Around 6:30 a.m. investigators interviewed a man and a woman outside of the home as detectives searched the area with flashlights before sunrise.

Last May, a woman was shot and killed on the same street, just yards away from Monday's fatal shooting.

Vicky Lynn McGee, 53, was found dead in her upstairs apartment on May 6, 2015.

A memorial to McGee remains on a utility pole in front of the apartment.

Police arrested Kobie Kelly, 31, in McGee's death. Neighbors said that McGee was not the gunman's intended target. They said that said he was firing shots at a man he was chasing. The unknown man, according to neighbors' accounts, ran into McGee’s unlocked apartment and a gunman fired shots into her living room window, killing her.

According to an arrest affidavit, a witness told police that Kelly fired several shots while standing in the street into McGee’s second-floor apartment.

In Monday's shooting, police said they were still investigating and no arrests have been made.

This is the second homicide in less than 24 hours in the city.

On Sunday, officers were called around 10:15 a.m. to an apartment in the 3100 block of Autumnwood Avenue off of Kirby Parkway in Hickory Hill where they found Terrance Wright, 34, had been shot and killed.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

The latest two deaths bring this year's record homicide rate to 222.
