Comedy's 'Trailer Park Boys' roll into Memphis

Did you watch Tuesday's Memphis episode of the hit NBC program, "This Is Us"? Did you tune in Thursday for the debut of the CMT series, "Sun Records"? Were you a fan of the recent Bluff City-based Cinemax crime series, "Quarry"?

The city's moment in the television spotlight is not over yet. "Trailer Park Boys," a long-running Canadian comedy franchise now produced for Netflix, was in town this week to shoot scenes at multiple Memphis locations for an episode of the sidebar series, "Trailer Park Boys Out of the Park."

The three days of local shooting ends Saturday, according to the Memphis & Shelby County Film and Television Commission. The production moves next to Nashville, and New Orleans and Orlando also are on the itinerary. (The previous "Trailer Park Boys Out of the Park" spinoff, which debuted in October on Netflix, followed the "boys" on an eight-episode kook's tour of Europe.)

A "mockumentary" series originally focusing on the residents of a fictional trailer park in Nova Scotia, "Trailer Park Boys" — adapted from a comedy movie of the same name — debuted in 2001 on the Canadian TV channel, Showcase. Flaunting the misadventures of a trio of incompetent petty-criminal misfit inebriates, the series developed an international cult following that led to such movies and concert films as "Trailer Park Boys: Drunk, High & Unemployed" and "Trailer Park Boys: Live at the North Pole." A release date for the Memphis episode is uncertain, but it likely won't be aired until after the 11th season of the primary "Trailer Park Boys" show, which begins March 31 on Netflix.
