Memphis police have arrested two men in a killing that appears to be gang-related, according to an affidavit.

Marquez Banks

Marquez Banks, 20, has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and using a firearm during a felony in the Jan. 21 killing of Terrance Maxwell. Marcellus Williams, 18, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder. Both are being held at the Shelby County Jail.

According to an affidavit, this began around 10 p.m. that night in the 4900 block of Blue Wing in Southeast Memphis. According to a witness, someone in a car drove by and fired on the house, yelling "Grape Street!" The Grape Street Crips are one of the city's more notorious gangs.

The bullets struck two men, killing Maxwell on the scene. The other victim survived. Police developed both men as suspects, the affidavit said, in part because both had attended a party there earlier that night. Witnesses also told police that both had been armed with handguns at the party.

According to the affidavit, Banks told police he was opened fire from the car.
