A 50-year-old man has been arrested in the fatal stabbing of a man attacked with a pocket knife outside a South Memphis gas station earlier this week.

Bernard Davis has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Mansfield Mitchell.

Police said Mitchell was at the Valero gas station at 800 E.H. Crump on Monday when he was attacked by the defendant and stabbed multiple times, according to an arrest affidavit.

Mitchell was taken to the Regional Medical Center where he died Thursday from his injuries.

Police obtained the surveillance video from the store that showed Davis approach Mitchell, attack him and then stab him.

Investigators arrested Davis after the attack. He admitted to police that he stabbed the victim, according to the affidavit. Police recovered a 3 to 5 inch pocket knife that Davis said he used in the attack from his pocket, according to arrest documents.

Davis remains in jail on a $35,000 bond.
