Memphis hairdresser found shot to death at O.L. Cash Park

Memphis police are investigating after a man was found fatally shot in a Southwest Memphis park Thursday morning.

Officers were called at 7:08 a.m. to O.L. Cash Park, which is near Ford Road and Deerskin Drive.

Police spokesman Louis Brownlee said in an email Thursday the victim was shot multiple times.

The victim's family on the scene identified him as 51-year-old Alex Phillips. He was a hair dresser at Queens Coiffeurs. They said he left home at around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

They said he lived in the area and they last saw him at church on Mother's Day.

At the scene of the shooting, neighbors stood behind crime scene tape and watched police.

Officers surrounded a burgundy car where the victim was found shot to death inside.

Resident Jerry Smith lives three houses away from the park that is in the Indian Hills subdivision in Southwest Memphis near Westwood area.

Smith said he thought he heard gunshots early this morning but thought it was coming from his television.

"Teens hang out back here in the park but I've never known anybody to get shot," said Smith, who has lived in the neighborhood four years.
