A 35-year-old man has been charged in the fatal shooting of another man killed Thursday at a Whitehaven apartment.

Travis Greer has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Marcus Tolbert.

Police were called to the emergency room at Methodist South after Tolbert, 32, was dropped off. He had been shot three times and was airlifted to the Regional Medical Center where he later died.

Investigators found that the shooting occurred at an apartment in the 1600 block of  East Holmes Road, off Millbranch.

Several people were in the apartment when police arrived. According to an arrest affidavit, officers heard a man inside admit to others that he had a gun and fired it.

Five people were detained and questioned by police. Witnesses told police that the defendant admitted to shooting the victim during an argument and then forced a man and a woman to clean up the crime scene and get rid of the evidence, according to an affidavit.

Greer was arrested, but denied being in the apartment during the shooting. In addition to the murder charge, Greer also has been charged with tampering with or fabricating evidence.
