No charges will be filed after a man was shot and killed Friday in the 1200 block of Poppen, according to Memphis police.

Police responded to a shooting call at 5:30 p.m. in Orange Mound and found one man who had been shot and was unresponsive inside a 2015 Nissan Frontier pickup truck.

Billy Ray Sandlin, 36, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police said the person responsible for the shooting remained on the scene and told police Sandlin broke out the back window of the truck and climbed through the window.

"The owner of the vehicle approached armed with a handgun," a release from police said.

The owner told police there were weapons in the vehicle, and he believed the person inside the truck was armed when he shot him.

"All evidence was presented to the (Shelby County) District Attorney General's office and it was determined that no charges will be filed at this time," the police statement said.
