6 killed, including 3 children, in weekend violence in Memphis
Yolanda JonesSix people including three children have been killed in separate homicides in Memphis since Friday.
In all, four people were shot and two others died in violent incidents.
Friday
The violence began Friday morning when a man and a woman were shot multiple times in a drive-by as they were in the drive-thru at the McDonald's at 1666 Winchester in Whitehaven.
The woman later died at the Regional Medical Center from gunshot wounds. The man with her was critically wounded in the shooting.
Police have not identified the victims and no arrests have been made. Police said they were looking for the driver of a gold Infiniti.

Friday ended with two separate homicides on opposite ends of the city.
At 10:52 p.m., police responded to a shooting call at a home in the 4600 block of Sandy Park in the Hickory Hill area.
Israel Faulkner, 25, was found shot to death at the home. Police charged his uncle, Ruben Walton, 43, with first-degree murder in Faulkner's death.
On Saturday, Walton turned himself in to police. According to an affidavit, he told police he had "committed a terrible crime" but refused to tell investigators what he had done.
He later told homicide detectives, "I have nothing to say to you about killing my nephew," according to an affidavit.

As police were investigating this homicide, they received a call minutes later at 10:59 p.m. after a man and a woman were pushed from a car on Third and Belz in South Memphis.
The woman was critically injured and the man was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police have not released their names or the cause of death but were investigating their deaths as homicides.
Saturday
Saturday's homicide victims were three children all under the age of 17.
Devin Johnson, 12, was shot once in the head at his family's home in the 2400 block of Dana Drive in North Memphis.
Officers responded to the shooting at 3:20 a.m. at the home, off Jackson and Hollywood. Devin, a 7th grader at Grandview Middle School, was pronounced dead on the scene.
His sister told police that she and her boyfriend got into a fight after she refused to make him something to eat, according to arrest affidavit. She told police that her boyfriend put a gun to her head during the fight.
When she left the room to go check on a noise in the kitchen, she told police that when she returned she found her boyfriend standing over her brother and saw the gun fire.
The boyfriend, identified by police as Caterrious Williams, 18, ran from the home.
Williams later came to the homicide office with his lawyer and denied any involvement in the death of Devin, according to an affidavit.
Williams has been charged with first-degree murder in perpetration of aggravated child abuse, aggravated child abuse and aggravated assault in Devin's death.

Hours later in Frayser, police said 3-year-old Anthonisha Edwards was beaten to death by her mother's common-law husband as punishment for getting too many juices, according to an arrest affidavit.
Police said Tareynton Rogers, 23, was the child's caregiver when she was severely beaten and her injuries were left untreated overnight. She was found unresponsive around 9:30 a.m. at the home in the 3500 block of Markley Street. She later died at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.

Rogers has been charged with first-degree murder in perpetration of aggravated child abuse, first-degree murder in perpetration of aggravated child neglect, aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect.
Saturday night, a 14-year-old boy was killed after a shooting in South Memphis, police said.
Police responded to a fight call at 9:55 p.m. in the 800 block of Kerr Avenue. Three victims were non-critical and the teen boy was pronounced dead on the scene. No arrests have been made.

The weekend's violence brings the total number of homicides in Memphis so far this year to 151. This time last year, Memphis had 170 homicides. In 2016, Memphis had 228 homicides, a record number.
