Parents charged after child thrown from car during domestic dispute in southeast Memphis

A 1-year-old boy injured when he was thrown from a car and accidentally run over during a domestic dispute remains in critical condition while his parents have been arrested in the incident.

Yacobian Benner, 24, and Tamara Roscoe, 22, have been charged with reckless endangerment in the incident.

Police were called around 3 a.m. Wednesday to a shots fired call at the Autumnwood Apartments in the 3100 block of Amber Leaf Lane. 

When officers arrived on the scene they learned that a child had been injured when he was somehow thrown from the car during an altercation between his parents.

Police said Benner punched his girlfriend Tamara Roscoe several times in the face and dragged her by the hair when the two argued after she came from a club on Beale Street, according to an arrest affidavit. 

Tamara Roscoe left the apartment and as she was putting her son into her sister's Honda, police said Benner fired into the air,  six feet away from the child. No one was hit by gunfire.

As Tamara Roscoe attempted to drive off, police said the door of the car was not closed and the child was thrown from the car and his mother ran over him. 

Tamia Roscoe said her sister was driving her Honda during the incident. She had a cut on her nose and was crying in the parking lot of the apartments Wednesday morning.

She said she was too upset to discuss what happened and how she was injured and how her nephew was hurt.

According to a police report, Tamia Roscoe was injured when she was hit in the face by Benner with a traffic cone when she tried to break up the fight and she was also hit in the face by the door of the car when she went to check on her nephew after he was injured.

The child's parents were questioned by police and arrested. 

In addition to the reckless endangerment charges, Benner also has been charged with aggravated assault/domestic violence and assault. He will be in court Thursday and remains in jail on a $30,000 bond.

Tamara Roscoe has also been charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving and driving on a suspended license. She will also be in court Thursday and remains in jail on a $70,000 bond.
